On Monday, World Water Day 2021, eight companies from Ontario, Canada, took part in a virtual heat of Water Dragons, hosted by Future Water, in partnership with the Canadian High Commission and the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade (MEDJCT).
In excess of a hundred attendees joined the virtual event to watch as each company presented an eight minute pitch to the Water Dragon judges. Following the pitch where presenters were able to identify the market need and challenges addressed by their water focussed innovation, each presenter faced questioning from the judges about the key characteristics and benefit of their innovation. Each innovation presented to the Water Dragons addressed a different aspect of water management, from pipe networks to water treatment and asset operations, yet all the companies presenting had one thing in common, a keenness to engage with the UK water market and establish working partnerships with it's supply chain. After a period of deliberation, the judges returned with their verdict and the winner of our first International heat of Water Dragons was announced as FloNergia Inc. with their innovative pump system, FloMov™. ![]() FloNergia Inc., a global leader in the development, commercialization and deployment of engineered airlift pumping systems for the agriculture, aquaculture, aquaponics, hydroponics and water/wastewater industries, today announced the appointment of Professional Aquaculture Services, Inc. as Exclusive Distributor for the company’s complete line FloMov™ airlift pumps in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Nevada, and Mississippi. FloNergia’s FloMov™ airlift pump technology is used in many markets for water circulation and aeration. FloMov™ pumps not only improve water quality, but will also reduce energy costs associated with pumping/aeration systems by 50 to 70% when compared to conventional systems. Additionally, FloMov™ pumps have been proven to perform several functions including: disrupting thermal stratification, improving oxygenation, stripping carbon dioxide and facilitating the recovery of solid waste. “We are very pleased to add Professional Aquaculture Services, Inc. to our global family of Exclusive Distributors. Their expertise aquaculture systems management and their connection to the aquaculture industry throughout the US will help us to introduce our energy efficient FloMov™ pump technology to more customers in the US,” FloNergia Inc. Stop by Booth #8 to chat with Sherif Abdou about how FloMov airlift pumps reduce energy consumption by 50-70%! FloNergia is proud to have been featured in Spring 2019 edition of Momentum, the Mohawk College Community Magazine. FloNergia... takes new ideas in engineering and makes them better and more efficient. Their first product is an energy efficient airlift pump that can work with a combination of air and water to make hydroponic and aquaculture much more energy efficient.
How AG Helped: Even though FloNergia was already incorporated as a company, AG helped. “The program formalized what we were already doing and made our progress more efficient,” says Sherif Abdou, COO. Best Part of AG: The pitching workshops. “It was helpful, especially as a professor working on the technical aspects and scientific side,” says Wael Ahmed, Chief Technology Officer. The focus on product development also helped. “We started the company thinking about one product only and now we are thinking beyond this,” Abdou says. “We’ve had a shift in mentality.” Final Words: Ahmed urges participants to embrace the program. “Spend time with the program. Make the most of it by doing the exercises.” While Abdou adds a note of encouragement “Everyone is there to help.” - Accelerating Created at Guelph Research and Innovations University of Guelph Innovation Newsletter Sherif Abdou and Paul Subject from FloNergia were among a group of entrepreneurs from Accelerator Guelph who met with experts last week to discuss strategies for raising startup funds.
